Joey and Allison were a dream couple to photograph because they made this entire process so fun! I was always sad when our time together ended because I could hang out with these two all day. Usually, I do not look forward to sitting in front of my computer and editing for hours on end. However, I was always anxious to get started on their images. I truly enjoyed editing both their engagement session and wedding day because these two have a special ability to make their photos stand out.
When I met Allison for our wedding consultation, she confessed to me that she had a bit of anxiety when it came to planning her wedding. Allison hasn’t been to a wedding since she was a baby. She’s been on Pinterest and she had all the magazines, but she was worried that her day wouldn’t match up to the flow of a “normal” wedding. Truthfully, I loved that she was inexperienced when it came to the world of weddings. It meant that all her ideas and visions were going to be unique and from her own creation.
I advise my brides to not compare their wedding day/photographs to what they solely see on Pinterest. Although fun to shuffle through, it can be a negative tool for my clients. Every wedding has a variety of variables that make it unique. The budget, theme, lighting, location, details, weather, venue, and timeline are main components that help separate one wedding from another. They are also the components that make each wedding incomparable to the next. When my clients come to terms with that, it gives them the freedom and peace to know that their wedding will not be a part of an online trend, but something that truly represents them as a couple.
This could not have been more true for Joey and Allison. Like I said in earlier posts, these two were born in the wrong decade. They are the definition of retro. They love The Beatles, records, jazz bars, and dancing to Sinatra. They cry at Paul McCartney concerts and their fashion always has a flashback appeal to it. I love that they tied the knot in Palm Springs at Lucille Ball’s (I Love Lucy) old house. Chelsea and I had so much fun during our Palm Springs getaway and we felt honored to celebrate and photograph this amazing couple. The venue, the colors, and the music could not have described their relationship more perfectly. I couldn’t be more impressed that Allison’s first real wedding was her own and it was one of the best weddings I have attended. Congrats Joey and Allison!
